Mon Dieu. I have a lot of Euro lady crushes lately, and this Swede is toward the top of the list. Queen of the Clouds has been in my rotation for quite a few months, and I have now realized that it is one of my favorite albums ever. And I do mean it when I say EVER. It’s a concept album, and all the songs center around her relationships, taking you through all the stages – The Sex, The Love, and The Pain. And boy is she honest. This album takes you on Tove Lo’s Wild Ride.
This girl is an amazing songwriter. So much so that she’s pumping ’em out for everybody else too. She penned the Fifty Shades of Grey theme “Love Me Like You Do,” sung by fellow Euro lady crush Ellie Goulding. She also co-wrote Hilary Duff’s new single “Sparks.” Don’t lie, you love both of those songs. The point is, her songwriting is what makes this album such a masterpiece. I don’t even have a “skip song” on this album. There is always ONE skip song!
Then, you have this little thing about how she’s super DUPER sexy. She is fierce, she is confident, and she is sexual. And I love it. It’s like she takes the most brutal, most exciting, and most terrifying emotions a person can have, and she turns them into fucking great music. Female artists are making a comeback in a big way, and it is exciting. We are women, hear us ROAR. And curse. And sing about sex. And drugs. And love our bodies. And show off our bodies. Maybe a little too much? Nah!
